Final Post

Project Idea:

In photo one we did a project where we reenacted an old photograph and tried to make it look identical. I want to do something similar but with modern clothing and ideas to kind of bring the past and present together. I am using slight hints of censory with the nude pictures as I have parts cover up, representing the unwilling-ness of current society to expose themselves. It’s as though we are starting to move back in time in certain aspects, nudity isn’t always seen for the beautiful form that it is.

For this image, I am mimcking the side shot by Edward Weston. I need to do some more touching up in photoshop along the leg, but this is my first draft.

This piece is in comparison with Edward Weston’s image of the back. I kept the underwear on as a sign of censorship, because in society, public nudity is still greatly frowned upon

I have two new photos to show you (Julie) that are finished for our one on one today. The final two photos will be completed in the up coming weeks as well as having a final set of judging statements from peers and possible one from a professor.

week 4

I’m going to give all of my images a warm tone to them since they all involve skin in some sort and I want to give the series a more apparent sense of uniform and I want the skin to feel warm.

My Plans for the Rest:

I’ve found my model for both nude shots. Shooting is scheduled for sometime this week.

I have the appropriate materials for the bed shot, but location is still TBA

As far as the clothed model, I intend to take that shot on a more spontaneous note but if worst come to worst I will use a model.

Week 3

The general conscientious was that I needed to find something that would unite the photos. I think I will be able to unite them by making them all high key and colorful. I got relatively positive feed back from my peers and from my professors, though there is some concern that the point of the series won’t really come through. I need to make the redone photos more prominent in that they are clearly set for modern day society. (The point of the series is mostly to show that in portraiture, the only definition of time is what the people are wearing.) Also, my peers feel that this will enhance my understanding in fashion photography, which is what I want to do.

So, I’ve lost all track of time recently and I wasn’t sure which week we were on. So I posted for a later week the other day when I actually meant to post this post the other day. I orginally had decided to only reenact one photographer and what I came to find through research is that I didn’t want to do just one person’s style, I wanted to incorporate many styles. I am, however, going to focus on one of the photographers for this post. His name is Joel Meyerowitz and he is a well-known contemporary portrait photographer but he does many other types of photographs as well.

Joel Meyerowitz is a street photographer who began his journey in 1962 at age 24 using color photography. He became an advocate of the use of color during a time when there was significant resistance to the idea of color photography as serious art.

In the early 70′s he taught the first color course at Cooper Union where many of today’s renowned color photographers studied with him. He made a significant change to large format color photography in 1976, and along with Stephen Shore and William Eggleston became the first group of young artists to use color exclusively. Their work, seen and published in America and Europe, influenced the next generation’s, particularly the young German artists’, turn toward using color in photography. He is the author of 16 books including the book Cape Light. He often used large format, 8×10 cameras to photograph with.

Meyerowitz has published a photographic archive of the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center, and was the only photographer allowed unrestricted access to ground zero immediately following the attack.
